Animal Collective - Summertime Clothes

With the Dakin Summer Kickoff rockin tonight, my Eminem diatribe will have to wait until next week. In the meantime, here's my current obsession:

This track will take me right into the Fourth of July. Enjoy the crazy video.

The Besnard Lakes

So these guys played a free Millennium park concert about a month ago, but I haven't stopped enjoying their new disc since. A husband and wife-led group in which the dude can hit notes i bet the wife cant, these guys put together an incredibly solid album - The Besnard Lakes Are The Roaring Night.

Each song rolls into the next, and each song is the perfect song of harmony, rock and explosions-esq instrumentalism (i just made that word up). Luckily someone feels the same way I do, so we're gonna roll thru the first few songs of the album. The opening song is epic, Chicago Train is a perfect example of their sound, and Albatross has a great build up. Give em a listen, and if you like it, definitely buy the disc - such a cool sound.

Happy Fathers Day

One is sweet and subtle, the other is not. Nothing against all the non-robotic step-fathers out there (who undoubtedly read TSAD on a regular basis).

The Kilimanjaro Darkjazz Ensemble

Anyone remember Bright Black Morning Light? The Darkjazz Ensemble is like that crossed with Sex Mob, except with more jazz percussion, more experimentation, and potentially more evil. Some seriously powerful dark grooves show up in their work, most notably Lobby. This is what good ambient music sounds like. Check it out:

RATATAT - LP4

Bring It

RATATAT (doesn't their name look awesome spelled in all caps?) is back with LP4, which was recorded at the same time as LP3 and showcases a very similar sound. However, there are a few more unusual instruments, some funny narrative fills, and more slower tracks than LP3. I'll admit, the first time I listened to this album I was unimpressed. But the second time I listened to it I decided that it was awesome. Really awesome. If you dig RATATAT's sound, and I know you do, pick up this disc. Start with Drugs.

Here are a couple vids in the band's unique style:

Greetings from New Orleans!

I'm in the Crescent City celebrating the end of my good friend Dave's bachelorhood. But I couldn't leave you guys without a Friday blog post two nights in a row, so here's a little taste of that Bayou Groove:

Hope you dig.

Tame Impala

Like a goddamn time machine for your ears.
As we mourn the loss of Lala this week, we must explore other avenues to find and listen to new music on the web (fucking Apple). I found out about these excellent thursday jams from my old friend Twitter:

Thank you Flying Lotus. Thank you for recommending my new favorite summer jams. Thank you for giving me something to do Mon June 21st. Thank you for Tame Impala.

This rock trio from Perth, Australia reminds me of The Beatles' more psychedelic stuff combined with a grungier hendrix-y sound.

Here are a couple of tracks off their new release InnerSpeaker - an AWESOME disc, and one of two CDs out right now I'd tell you to run out and buy IMMEDIATELY.

My favorite track on the album:
