Gold Panda + Sage

A couple of jams to tickle your listening devices today. The first if Gold Panda with two killer tracks: 'You,' a new single that's simple yet most excellent. And 'Quitters Raga' which some of you might have heard already, which can best be described as all over the place, but also cool.

As a bonus this thursday, may I present an awesome track from the master of spoken-word hip hop Sage Francis. Seriously, the best lyrics. period. This is 'The Best of Times' complete with lyrics ala follow the bouncing ball.

awesome.

Bonnaroo Mixtape 2010

I got an email about this free download tonight and couldn't pass it
up. It might be the best free download since the TSAD Year One compilation
was put out. That being said, I can't help but notice that the list of artists on this Bonnaroo Mixtape from SPIN is strikingly similar to the list of artists we have featured over the last year. Well, we all know what they say..."Imitation is the highest form of flattery". Hope you all enjoy this, and thanks for reading our Blog SPIN Magazine people.

Here is what is on the Album....

1. The Gaslight Anthem, “American Slang”
2. The National, “Bloodbuzz Ohio”
3. Manchester Orchestra, “Shake It Out”
4. Kings of Leon, “Cold Desert”
5. Local Natives, “World News”
6. Blitzen Trapper, “Heaven and Earth”
7. Phoenix, “1901 (Live in Sydney)”
8. Samantha Crain, “Lions”
9. Bomba Estereo, “Fuego”
10. Tinariwen, “Lulla”
11. Mumford & Sons, “White Blank Page (Live)”
12. Jamey Johnson, “Place Out on the Ocean”
13. The Young Veins, “Change”
14. Dawes, “When My Time Comes”
15. Gossip, “Are You That Somebody (Live Aaliyah Cover)”
16. Chromeo, “Night By Night”

Here is where you DL it.

Rock on.

Dear God 2.0

Caught this on Pitchfork.  I think I was one of a select view who really enjoyed the Monsters of Folk album - granted a few downer songs on the album ("Baby Boomer"), but also a couple dandy's ("Say Please").  "Dear God" was also high on my list, and I think The Roots actually did a nice job with this one.  ?uestlove's snare really snaps so it goes perfectly with the original, although Black Thought is sort of depressing...  I like it, we'll see how the rest of The Roots new (what is this, the 19th record they've put out?) album pans out.

Spring Concert Recap

Yeah, it's been a good Spring

Some great bands have come through Chicago since Easter Sunday, and I've been lucky enough to see several of them. Here's a recap, in video form.

Miike Snow - Won't back down from anything... party music

The Low Anthem - Achingly beautiful

Yeasayer - Wait for the sunrise

Local Natives - Super tight set, great energy, best show I've seen this year

That's how you close down a set right there.

Them Crooked Vultures - they really jammed out on this one in Chicago

John Paul Jones dropped some bombs on bass and Dave Grohl is a lunatic behind the drums. I'm thrilled that I got to see these guys.

Here's a bonus Yeasayer video from La Blogotheque. Nothing short of fantastic.
